ACL Afterparties and Sideparties

This is a post from 2008. Check out some of ACL 2009 Afterparties and Sideparties.

It’s a shame that unlike SXSW  there is very much a lack of free shows and free beer during ACL, which is a damn shame…however if you are one of the sad bastards that didn’t get tickets to ACL, don’t fret, Austin will not let you down. Here’s a listing of the some the shows that are worth checking out for the ACL weekend after the jump

The Cool Kids and Voxtrot (Free)
Cool Kids
C.A.K.E. Recordings artist and hipster favorites, The Cool Kids, will be coming together with one of my favorite Austin bands Voxtrot, for a free show put on by Rolling Stone Magazine. The show is free, at the Mohawk, just make sure to RSVP as soon as possible, as space is probably limited.

Paste presents ACL 2008 kick-off party
Paste ACL 2008 Kickoff

Paste Magazine will be hosting a free party, featuring Mates of State and What Made Milwuakee Famous. Also on the bill are Bobby Bare Jr., Dan Dyer, White Ghost Shivers and Thomas Function. The show is at Emos, make sure to RSVP before it’s too late. Go over to Paste and check out more information on the acts.

Dirty South Joe with Bird Peterson

Platypus Promotions will be presenting Dirty South Joe along with Bird Peterson. Here’s some info. on Dirty South Joe, from Platypus Promotions:

Joey “Dirty South Joe” Massarueh began his professional career in 1990 at Washington D.C.’s infamous 9:30 Club, where he pioneered the “anything goes” style of DJing that rings more popular than ever today. An eventual move to NYC in the mid nineties found him both going back to his roots, and focussing the hip hop side of the brain to all things dirty south inspired, as well as banging out techno and electro tracks with John Selway and Prozac as the Responsible Space Playboys. The crew released an EP on Abe Duque’s Tension imprint, as well as doing official remixes for the Detroit Grand Pubas and Keoki among others. Joe, as DJ Deluxxx released the legendary “Crunk B4 Da Fall” dirty south mixtape in 2001, followed by “Da Hood, Da Bad & Da Thugly” trilogy the following year to widespread acclaim, familiarizing the northeast with the sounds of Southern rap years before it took over the airwaves. 2002 found him relocating yet again, this time to Philadelphia, where he began his tenure as the buyer and manager for Armand’s Records, the musical home base and inspiration behind the Hollertronix “movement.” It was also there where he fell in love with the sound of Baltimore Club, and he released a final ep with the Responsible Space Playboy crew, anchored by the track “Jussapimp,” Philly’s first official foray into the Bmore Club arena. An eventual induction into the legendary Brick Bandits Crew lead to the birth of Ol’ Head Records, a partnership with DJ Sega, and a collaboration with Diplo’s Mad Decent label. Ol’ Head is set to be the club music wing of Mad Decent, releasing the finest in Bmore club inspired sounds from around the globe. Expect to hear the best in club and house music styles when he plays his furious DJ sets. Dance, follow, or get out of the way!

A lot could also be said for Austin’s Bird Peterson…so this is definitely one that you don’t want to miss. The show is at Black & Tan. I couldn’t find any information on cover, but I’m sure it’s either free or cheap.

C3 Sideshows and Afterparties

For those that were only able to get one day tickets but are missing a band you really wanted to see…don’t fret, Charles Attal isn’t the guy that makes the big bucks by passing up opportunities. C3 will be hosting a series of side shows, featuring many ACL artist. The shows include Gnarls Barkley, Car Stereo Wars, Jamie Lidell and others. The shows are all in different venues and different times. Check out Frontgate tickets for times and tickets.

More?

I’m sure there are tons more shows going on, if you have something going on during ACL weekend, post it on the comments section to make sure people come and check it out. Of course, I’ll be in town from the DMV chilling in my old stomping grounds. If you see me around, say what up and have a beer with me. Peace
