Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

sketchy_santaSketchy Santas, a photoblog, proves that there nothing like uncomfortable photographs of bearded men with children in their laps to get you in that Christmas spirit. I wish I could have some of these pictures in hi res.

Ray Charles, Kanye, The Legendary KO and the Law

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Via FWMJ’s RappersIknow.com

RappersIknow.com contributing writer  Damien Randle is one half of the group The Legendary KO, a Texas based group who are discussed as an integral a part of this lecture given by Duke Law Professor James Boyle. The lecture is a bit long for a casual view, but interesting to anyone interested intellectual property, sampling, borrowing genre creation, fusion and the “chain of borrowing” as described by Professor James Boyle.

The track by The Legendary KO’s song, “George Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People” is available for download on RappersIknow.com.

Los Amigos Invisibles - Oyeme Nena

Hey everyone, this is The Honest Ape. I’ve been running this blog for over two years now and would like to thank all of my friends and readers that visit the site. I try my hardest to update Medium and promote the best of independent music and art but I will be without internet from August 5-20, so unfortunately the blog will not be updated for a bit. I will be traveling around Venezuela, hopefully on a beach or under a waterfall somewhere but as soon as I get back I will get back to business. If you want to feel the way I’m feeling, listen to some Amigos Invisibles while you sit at your cubicle, it’s usually what I do anyway. See all of ya’ll August 20.

Lil' Wayne Impersonator Wanted

Ha! You just gotta love Craigslist sometimes. This was posted earlier today, wonder if they have found their Lil’ Wayne yet, I would love to see video of the live performance. I’ve never seen a Lil’ Wayne impersonator but I would definitely like to, I’d even pay cover charge to show up to this kid’s birthday party and witness it firsthand.

20/20 - “Fresh”

Friday, June 5th, 2009

I heard a new track from 20/20 that he sent me the other day, but can’t leak it yet, but from the sounds of it, he sounds pretty hungry and keeps improving. This track, “Fresh”, is off of Introducing Mike and Ike, which is still one of my favorite albums to go back and listen to every once in a while. The full album is available on bandcamp, and there’s some tracks up for free download as well, check them out.

Austin: Shooting Outside Hip Hop Concert at Spiro’s

Friday, May 29th, 2009

What happened? Apparently there are no life threatening injuries, but 8 were injured and the police still have not found the suspects. This is not good for anyone, especially the Austin hip hop community. More details can be found over at the The Statesman’s “The Blotter” crime blog. I’ll try to post more information as I get it.

UGK - Trill Azz Mixez

Bun B: Trill Azz Mixez was originally conceived by DJ Wiz in Nashville. He begged us to do it. This was back when mixtapes were actually “mixtapes” and was only available in mom and pop stores. Wiz used to do a lot of Cash Money and No Limit mixtapes and he always wanted to do one with us. We’d always just be like “yeah, aight, whatever.” But, when we started having all of the label trouble we said we should do a mixtape and go ahead and put it out with Wiz. After it came out everywhere we went, people wanted it. We’d never have enough copies of it. To this day we still don’t. We’d always talk about bringing it back and re-releasing it. We actually did shows in the Midwest and the majority of the show would be based off the mixtape. It created income and we sold them at shows. Big up to DJ Wiz, he was an undying supporter of UGK. He hepled us understand the scope of our spread. Doing that tape with him is the reason why we put the UGK logo big as hell on all of our CDs now.

Check out the full post on Maurice Garland’s site for more previews and insight from Bun.
