Crew54 comes through with another solid episode the Crew54 Reality Show, even the audio quality on the live performances is pretty good. Neckbone and Bavu and The Extra Plairs + Gary Clark Jr. rock the crowd and Crew54  shows us Random’s (aka MegaRan) latest video for Push.

A couple weeks ago, a song directed at Chris Brown entitled “My Flow So Tight” by a group calling themselves The Smoke Jumpers started making its rounds around the Internet and even getting radio play. Besides the lyrics, it seems like a pretty standard radio song. Other than the fact that people are still hung up on the Chris Brown domestic abuse news, there’s really nothing to worry about, that is unless you’re another music group who have been using the Smoke Jumpers name for several years now.

Austin based crew Smoke Jumpers noticed that their MySpace page was getting a lot more traffic and even messages from people, looking for the Chris Brown song. The sound and content of the two groups by the same name couldn’t be more different.

The news of confusion has even made it to Yahoo News, where one of the members of the Smoke Jumpers was interviewed about the mix up. As of a few days ago, the makers of the “Anti-Breezy” song had changed their name to Jump Smokers to clear things up, but the misinformation is out and people want to hear about kicking Chris Brown’s ass.

I told one of the members from Smoke Jumpers that they might as well rap over the beat and ride the free publicity, but it’s probably not going to happen. Either way the free publicity for the Austin based crew can’t be too bad and from this video posted on their MySpace Page, they actually look like they can probably kick Chris Brown’s ass if they wanted to.

This year’s Austin City Limits Festival will be from October 2-9 at the ever so beautiful Zilker Park, but even though it’s two seasons away, Advanced Ticket sales start on April 7th. Prices only go up after this, so if you know you’ll be in Austin this year for the festival, scoop up your tickets early. The lineup has not been announced yet, but the ACL forum is abuzz with many rumored acts, including: The Beastie Boys, Mos Def, Ghostland Observatory, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, John Legend, and Thievery Corporation. Wow! I might  have to go all three days this year.

As of January 31st of 2009, BigBadMedium.com is a year old! I’ve had a lot of fun discovering and promoting independent artists and getting to know more folks in DC in Austin, seeing how that’s where I’m located.  I’m always trying to expand my network of writers, designers, artists, bloggers, promoters and internet peeps, so I’m looking for new people to add to my blogroll/links. Austin based Dj Chorizo Funk recently dropped the latest in his Chorizo FM mixes entitled “Four Finger Rap“. It features many artists who rolled through Austin for SXSW along with other indie hip hop acts from around the country. THIS IS IT, the massive blowout off the hook SXSW 54 Reality Show special. It’s jam packed from beginning to end full with Celebrity shout outs, live performances, and all the craziness involved with SXSW. For real shout out to the homie Matt Sonzala for putting ya boys down.

First up we pick up the hard copies of our newest release CREW DEEP (see more below), then head to check out Yarah Bravo putting it down at a Pre-SXSW performance. On Tuesday we rocked a show with Feddi Man, The G.U.U.D., and Dubb Sicks at Tap Room. Big up’s to the Superstar DJ’s, DJ Protege, Matt Nice, and Dj Clark Field for putting it down.

Then Crew54 actually splits up, G-Christ heads to catch Blu & Exile rocking, while I slid down to Fuze to check out local favorites T-Solo and Dred Skott. We met back up at Mohawk to catch SXSW Soul featuring Kendra Ross, Wayna, Maya Azucena, Neckbone, Bavu Blakes, and Mojoe.
