The iPhone As A Musical Instrument

A class at the University of Michigan teaches students to design and build apps that turn the iPhone into a musical instrument.  Man, here I thought I was cool because I had Google Apps and Rolando.

Medium Downloads Page

Medium Downloads Preview

Yo!!! I know that we try to provide yall with some dope downloads and looking back at the few years I’ve been running the site, I figured it would be cool to have a page where you can look through all the downloads and quickly preview and/or download something. For those projects that were hosted on Bandcamp, it was simple to post up a streaming link, which is one of the many reasons I’ve been recommending the site to anyone sending music out to blogs. I’m still working on a convenient way to display stream links for the other projects.

I decided I was going to use excerpts to serve as the content so I used Excerpt Editor to be able to quickly chop up the entries. I created a page template that would query only the excerpts of the “Downloads” Category, then used CSS to display them. Props to this post on Perishable Press, which has some good information on how to do a simple display of posts in columns.

Alright yall, I’ll be updating some of the dead/old links as I can, again, if you’re an artist that sends your music to blogs, providing a permanent, streamable link can only help you out. Peace

Adult Swim - ATL Remix

Adult Swim and Beaterator Present ATL RMX

Much props to Cartoon Network/Adult Swim for keeping it local.  ATL Remix is a high quality mash up of sorts featuring some of Atlanta’s most well known hip hop artists, from Goodie Mob to Oj da Juiceman. Most of the track are hit or miss but even if you’re not a fan of the original recording artist it’s worth seeing what producers like Flying Lotus, Prefuse 73 and El-P are able to do with the material. You can preview and download individual tracks on the ATL RMX page, or download the entire project as a zip file.

Sketchy Santas

sketchy_santaSketchy Santas, a photoblog, proves that there nothing like uncomfortable photographs of bearded men with children in their laps to get you in that Christmas spirit. I wish I could have some of these pictures in hi res.

The Muppets - “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Wow…that’s really all I have to say about this. What a way to celebrate the life of the one and only Freddie Mercury, who died on this day in 1991. Way to go Muppets.

The League of Extraordinary Gz - “Loftin n Austin” (Chop Steak Remix)

The League of Extraordinary Gz - Loftin N Austin (Chop Steak Remix)

The League of Extraordinary Gz - “Loftin n Austin” (Chop Steak Remix)

We got our own sound,” proclaims COD member, S Dot, on LOEGz‘ newest single, “Loftin’ N Austin.”  That sound gets the top dropped and the trunk popped on Chop Steak’s deep, funky official remix of the track.  The original track is a southern-style banger and an anthem for the capital city.  Best known for his work with the Soul 2020 crew, Chop Steak flips it into a smooth, slick head nodder that will make listeners want to take that drive down Congress Avenue extra slow.

Medium is proud to present this exclusive download from Chop Steak and The League of Extraordinary Gz. This remix marks the first official release from Medium. We will be releasing official and promotional material from select artists that we work with and are proud to have a track from The League of Extraordinary Gz as our inaugural release. The official version of the track is now getting radio spins in central and south Texas and this remix will be included on the League’s upcoming mixtape, leading up to the official League of Extraordinary Gz album due out early 2010.
