Brazil’s bad ass duo, The Twelves, will be visiting Baltimore this Wednesday, May 16th. They will be making a few more stops in the states, but not many. Don’t miss them if they are near you. In the meantime, check out their classic Essential Mix from late 2009.

Classixx at U Street Music Hall May 29

Classixx at U Street Music Hall DC

LA’s Classixx will be at DC’s U Street Music Hall this Saturday, May 29th. Doors open at ten, tickets are $10 and the venue is 18+. A few weeks ago I posted an older Classixx mix that stays in constant rotation, make sure you check it out.

From U Street Music Hall

Barely into their twenties, Classixx has begun defining a new sound for the Los Angeles electronic music scene. A refreshing change from the trance and techno inspired Electro that has been dominating dance floors, their Donna Summer’esque grooves have caught the ears of music aficionados, fans and artists alike. With recent remixes for groundbreaking artists such as Phoenix, The Ting Tings, Shiny Toy Guns and The Sounds their funky midtempo sound is turning heads everywhere. Their single, “I’ll Get You” featuring Jeppe (Junior Senior), is a debut track from the new collaboration between Kitsune Records and photoblogger Mark TheCobraSnake.

Live Light Design for Phoenix by Joakim Faxvaag

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Truly amazing live light design by Joakim Faxvaag, who has been on tour with the band Phoenix for the past year. Check out his site for some photos as well. The DC Phoenix show is sold out but I might have to get one of my girlfriends to spring for  some tickets on Craigslist after seeing this…

SXSW 2010 After Parties and Side Parties

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

My effin Gawd, I cannot keep up. The best job done, regarding fee parties is Austinist’s SXSWist’s because I seriously cannot keep up with this stuff! I posted what I could…this shit is seriously overwhelming! Look through it, see what you like, RSPV ASAP.

Yo! With the music festival of all music festivals less than a month away, looks like more information on the free parties is starting to flow in. Here are some that I think look pretty cool, make sure you check out Austinist for a crazy comprehensive list and follow their special SXSW twitter feed @sxswist

One of the most interesting looking parties/shows is the Six Stages over Texas block party with VIP tickets including free bourbon, beer and free food…not quite sure what the heck it’s all about, but will update when I find out.

Austin360 recently put up a list of unofficial parties as well, looks like there will be plenty going on.

If you’re having an event you want to promote, hit up the comments section or hit me up on twitter, @thehonestap

ACL 2009 Afterparties and Sideparties

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

ACL is upon us once again and unfortunately for me, I am stuck in DC aka The Real World and can’t be in the capital city to see the awesome lineup this year. Lucky for you reading this, you are in Austin and either looking for an alternative to the ACL craziness or looking for something to do after the day’s activities wind down. For all the Austinites, congratulations on what is sure to be another successful ACL, for all of the tourists, take care of my city, I plan on making a triumphant return one day and I hope I can still recognize my city by then. Anyway, here’s the break, break, down:

Big Sean Meet and Greet
Austin clothing boutique Complete Clothing will be hosting G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean at their brand campus location on Guadalupe. You know those G.O.O.D. music kids roll deep, I’m sure Mike Posner will make an appearance and who knows who else might make a cameo.

Also, Austin’s legendary restaurant and concert venue Stubbs, always does a great job of getting some of the best ACL acts for longer and more intimate sets. Check out the Stubbs concert site and maybe you can catch a group you missed during the day or if you weren’t lucky enough to get tickets you can check them out at the Stubb’s amphitheater.

Austinist.com also has a great slideshow of some of the parties going on this weekend, including Broken Social Scene at Seaholm Friday Night.

If you have an event going on this weekend during ACL, contact me and I’ll update the post with the greatest and latest. Holler!

2nd Annual Pachanga Latino Music Festival

Pachanga Music Festival Poster

2nd Annual Pachanga Latino Music Festival Youtube Playlist

The 2nd Annual Pachanga Latino Music Festival will take place in Austin, Texas May 30, 2009 at Fiesta Gardens. Seeing how I am definitely not a tejano fan, there are some acts on the lineup that I would not recommend seeing, but it’s good to see that the lineup is pretty diverse and includes some great latin alternative groups. For me personally, it would be worth the entrance price just to check out Mexican Institute of Sound, Ocote Soul Sounds and Brownout. Check out the rest of the lineup on the Pachanga fest site. This is a great festival to support, they’re bringing in great acts and I hope it keeps growing.

Doctor Mike Graduation Party

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Doctor Mike

My good friend Mike, better known to many from Mike and Ike, has finished up medical school and will be moving away from Austin. The only real emcee/MD that I know of, Mike found a way over the last few years to keep making music in between work and school and will now be moving away to DFW to continue doing what he does. He will be celebrating Saturday May 2 at Dirty Bill’s in Austin (511 Rio Grande), Dj Diamond Tip will be spinning some of Mike’s favorite songs, Mike will jump on the mic for a few songs and maybe invite some friends to do a few songs for old times sake.

If you are not familiar with Mike, he just finished up some collaborations with Hero and Rad, Mic Skills and Mike and Ike’s debut album has been made available recently on Bandcamp. Check out the the music and if you know Mike make sure you’re at Dirty Bill’s in Austin this Saturday May 2.
