2nd Annual Pachanga Latino Music Festival Youtube Playlist

The 2nd Annual Pachanga Latino Music Festival will take place in Austin, Texas May 30, 2009 at Fiesta Gardens. Seeing how I am definitely not a tejano fan, there are some acts on the lineup that I would not recommend seeing, but it’s good to see that the lineup is pretty diverse and includes some great latin alternative groups. For me personally, it would be worth the entrance price just to check out Mexican Institute of Sound, Ocote Soul Sounds and Brownout. Check out the rest of the lineup on the Pachanga fest site. This is a great festival to support, they’re bringing in great acts and I hope it keeps growing.

Bomba Estereo – “Fuego” Music Video

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Brand new music video from Colombia’s Bomba Estereo for their single “Fuego” from their upcoming US release of their album, Blow Up, out on Nacional Records June 23rd. For those not familiar with the group, think a latin rhythms version of MIA, with some reggae/dub. Oh funk yea! I can’t wait for the release, in the meantime, check out the video.

First discovered by many outside of Latin America in 2001′s Y tu mamá también, Rudo y Cursi brings two of Mexico’s most acclaimed actors, Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, back together in a film originally released in Mexico in late 2008 with a USA release date of May/June 2009. (Watch The Trailer) The movie is directed by Carlos Cuarón, who also directed Y tu mamá también

The soundtrack, out now on iTunes via Nacional Records, features original songs and covers from Quiero Club, Disco RuidoMexican Institute Of SoundThe Black Lips and even Gael García Bernal with an interesting cover of Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me”.

The track above is from grammy nominated Bostitch and Fussible, from Nortec Collective.

Despite popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is actually not Mexican Independence Day, it’s the commemoration of the victory over the French by Mexican forces at the Battle of Puebla. So, happy Kick-France’s-Ass-Day? Is there any country in the world the French haven’t lost to? Anyway, in the US It’s celebrated more as a Mexican/Latino St. Patrick’s Day and once I’m done with the day on May 5th I plan on joining all of you in drinking some Negra Modelo’s and eating some Mexican food or at least some decent Tex-Mex, it is Washington DC after all and you can’t expect too much.

So, in commemoration of beer drinking in the name of Mexican-nes and Latino-nes, I’m linking ya’ll to Nacional Record’s latest promo, brought to you free courtesy of AOL Latino and iTunes Latino. Featuring 20 tracks from the Nacional Records roster, including Nortec Collective, Pacha Massive, Aterciopelados, Mexican Institute of Sound, Plastilina Mosh, Manu Chao, Los Fabulosos Cadilac’s, Dj Bitman and much more. Enjoy!
