Classixx at U Street Music Hall DC

LA’s Classixx will be at DC’s U Street Music Hall this Saturday, May 29th. Doors open at ten, tickets are $10 and the venue is 18+. A few weeks ago I posted an older Classixx mix that stays in constant rotation, make sure you check it out.

From U Street Music Hall

Barely into their twenties, Classixx has begun defining a new sound for the Los Angeles electronic music scene. A refreshing change from the trance and techno inspired Electro that has been dominating dance floors, their Donna Summer’esque grooves have caught the ears of music aficionados, fans and artists alike. With recent remixes for groundbreaking artists such as Phoenix, The Ting Tings, Shiny Toy Guns and The Sounds their funky midtempo sound is turning heads everywhere. Their single, “I’ll Get You” featuring Jeppe (Junior Senior), is a debut track from the new collaboration between Kitsune Records and photoblogger Mark TheCobraSnake.

 K-Beta + Dj Alizay – 89 to 09

I’m not exactly sure what Innerloop Records is up to with all of the remakes/tributes, but so far it’s gotten them some good buzz and the music is great. Their latest release brings us Inner Loop  artist K-Beta taking on tracks from 1989 to 2009 ripping up everything from Young MC’s Bust a Move to Lil’ Keke’s Chunk Up the Deuce and finishing up with an original track by K-Beta produced by Best Kept Secret, best known for their work with Wale and RhymefestDj Alizay does a good job as well on the mix and some pretty solid cuts, I’m not sure if he had any hand in the beat selection but I wouldn’t be surprised.

With a project like this you can easily make your influences well known, show versatility, display a bit of your hip-hop knowledge and hopefully leave people wondering what original material you have up your sleeve. Download it now!

New Videos From Pro’Verb and Lyriciss

Lyriciss – Doing My Job
PRO’VERB – DMV HERO

Some new videos from DMV underground artists Pro’Verb and Lyriciss have popped up online. Lyriciss posted this video on Twitter last night and I peeped the other video from Pro’Verb on Digital Hustle’s youtube profile.

I have to respect the gritty, independent nature of the videos, although I think more could be done with little/no budget, but for mixtape tracks I guess you gotta do what you gotta do, even if it’s what looks like a two-for-one-video-deal. The talent is definitely there, not sure if it shows through the quality of the videos, but it’s definitely worth checking out.

Both Pro’Verb and Lyriciss are featured on Inner Loops Records Reasonable Doubt Remix Project, and are currently promoting separate mixtapes.

Friends

As of January 31st of 2009, BigBadMedium.com is a year old! I’ve had a lot of fun discovering and promoting independent artists and getting to know more folks in DC in Austin, seeing how that’s where I’m located.  I’m always trying to expand my network of writers, designers, artists, bloggers, promoters and internet peeps, so I’m looking for new people to add to my blogroll/links. If you’re interested in being a part of our links/blogroll, leave your information in the comments section of this post, make sure you actually put something in the text section of the comment.

Feel free to add any other information, your twitter, myspace, home address, SSN…no, but really, jokes aside, add any pertinent links and if you’re not already following me, The Honest Ape, on twitter, you can find me tweeting almost every day @thehonestape and you can also find our resident reviewer @chopsteak

Seems like the release party for Inner Loops Records Resonable Doubt Project release was a success and now some of the tracks are seeing the light of day. Cayan and Pro’Verb take on Jay’s Friend or Foe and from the sounds of this you’re definitely have to keep an eye out for the full project which featured contributions from  X.O., Asheru, Lyriciss and production from Judah, Best Kept Secret, J-Scrilla and Kokayi.
